Meeting this week
Meeting this Wednesday, January 8, will be at the Kutztown Tavern Club Room where we will celebrate the January Student of the Month event.
Each month the Kutztown Rotary Club recognizes one outstanding student each from Kutztown Area High School and Brandywine Heights Area High School. These students are selected by their school administrators and are often picked for significant improvement or overcoming challenges, accomplishments in academics, school participation, and community contributions. These students never fail to impress Rotarians with their positive impact on our community. Dinner for the student, two parents, and one school administrator will be paid for by the club - additional family and representatives from the school are always welcome.
Meet at 6:00 to get a drink and socialize. We order dinner at 6:20, followed by invocation and club news. Program starts around 7:15.
Meeting will be hybrid - live and via zoom. There will be a board meeting at 5:30 which will use the same zoom link.
Bills for 2025 have been sent out via email to members who did not already pay in December. The bill is due by January 31, 2025. Please pay your dues during a meeting or send a check to Kutztown Rotary Club, PO Box 127 Kutztown PA, 19530.
It is grant application time through March 30, 2025 for both District Grants and Global Grants. In order to participate in grants, more than 1 person in each club needs to complete the grant training, which is then good for 3 years. Training expired this year for all but one member in the Kutztown club, so we need members to get the training. Members who are grant trained are responsible for writing and coordinating grants.
Grant Training will be held by ZOOM on January 13, 2025, at 6:00 pm
Kutztown Kitchen at Trinity Lutheran Church on January 26, 2025
Set-up is at 2:30. We serve dinner from 4:30 to approximately 6:00. The sign-up sheet accounts for approximately 75 dinners, which we will be serving in person. Follow this link to sign up for food to donate and/or to volunteer for the event.
Valentine Boxes for Lighthouse Women's and Children's Shelter
We will be decorating and filling treat boxes for the women and children at the Lighthouse Center, which is a branch of Hope Rescue Mission in Reading. We will be decorating the boxes at our meeting on January 15, but will be collecting items to fill the boxes through the first week of February. Follow this link for more information and the sign up sheet
Club members are responsible for meetings throughout the year. Some meetings each month are assigned to a club member and that member is responsible for providing the program for that night (and the invocation). Please tell the club secretary (Melissa Kirk) who/what your programming will be as early as you can, but no later than 6 weeks before your date. If you cannot provide a program for your assigned date, please switch with someone and let Melissa know as soon as possible. The current meeting list will be updated regularly and can be found at this link.
On deck for February and March are: Bob Hobaugh (Feb 26) Chris Peterson (Mar 12).
There was no meeting last week, January 1, 2025, due to the new year holiday. Have a wonderful, prosperous, and healthy new year!
Kutztown Rotary Fun Fact of the Week
As we start to prepare for our centennial celebration in 2026, we will use this space to present a fun Kutztown Rotary Trivia fact each week. Please visit our website for updates on our centennial celebration plans, which will kick off in January 2026!
In 1985, members from the disbanded Topton Rotary Club joined with the Kutztown Rotary Club, which now serves both the Kutztown and Topton areas.
