Kutztown Rotary Club celebrates District 7430 Day of Service
Kutztown Rotary Club joined with Kutztown Thriving to build a fence around the Bee Pollinator Garden in Kutztown.

The service event was part of a District-wide effort in support of Rotary International adding Protecting the Environment as a 7th Area of Focus.  With the power of Rotary behind it, we believe there is real potential to make a difference in the world.

Qur club was very excited about this project and the partnership with Kutztown Thriving, which is part of KCP, a wonderful organization that has really made a difference in Kutztown.

We removed the plants 2 feet in from the sidewalk.
Holes were dug and the posts and rails were put in.
Lots of mulching to help prevent weeds.
Beautiful end product! Job well done!
Stories
Joint meeting picnic
On Wednesday, April 27, the Fleetwood Rotary Club joined the Kutztown Rotary Club for a picnic at Longswamp Park. Although the strangely frigid late April weather forced us indoors, all had a good time with lots of laughter and fellowship. Central to the festivities were the root beer floats made as a peace offering after the Kutztown Club fairly easily won a bet with the Fleetwood Club over which club could get the most members registered for the Purple Pinkie event last October. The Kutztown club donated their winnings (2 cases of root beer) and the Fleetwood club brought the ice cream and toppings. Seriously, we really enjoy spending time with the Fleetwood club and invite them to mingle anytime! We forgot to take pictures, but did we got one of our fearless leader with his root beer float.

STEM YEA Fundraiser
A few members of the Kutztown Rotary Club attended the STEM YEA Reverse Raffle Fundraiser on April 30 at the Indian Valley Country Club. Terry Hart, former NASA astronaut, US Air Force fighter pilot, and telecommunications executive and current professor at Lehigh University gave a fascinating speech about his career and the importance of encouraging science in students. Although the club members in attendance did not win during the raffle, they had fun at the picture booth!
Meghan Reeder graduation
One of our newer members (and our youngest member) will be graduating from Kutztown University next weekend with a bachelor's degree in art history and a minor in anthropology. This past weekend, there was a graduation toast with President Hawkinson, which was supposed to be followed by a graduation parade down main street and a dinner in Meghan and Melissa's back yard to celebrate the occasion. The terrible weather caused the parade to be cancelled and the dinner to be moved indoors. However, the Kutztown Rotary Club was there to celebrate this momentous occasion with Meghan and her mom.
