Stories
District Assembly Training
Kutztown Rotarians joined in learning and fellowship at the District 7430 Training Assembly at DeSales University on April 10. Rotary always provides opportunities to learn more so you can get the most out of Rotary and give the best of yourself to help others. Visit our website if you are interested in giving back to the world.
Etiquette dinner at Kutztown University
On Tuesday, April 5, members Tom, Amy, Kurt, Jim and Melissa attended an Etiquette Dinner at Kutztown University hosted by the My Place Organization. The My Place program provides enhanced support services to students on the autism spectrum who are enrolled in Kutztown University degree programs. The dinner provided My Place members an opportunity to talk with professional business leaders while learning about professional meal etiquette. It was great chatting with the students, and maybe learning a few good tips ourselves. After the meal we headed to Schaeffer Auditorium to hear Ben Hartranft (Autism Public Motivator) share his story about how inclusion and kindness shaped his life with autism. Visit his web site at www.benergy1.com to learn how he encourages everyone to always dream big!
Students of the Month for April 2022
Each month the Kutztown Rotary Club recognizes one outstanding student each from Kutztown Area High School and Brandywine Heights High School. These students are selected by their school administrators and are often picked for significant improvement or overcoming challenges, accomplishments in academics, school participation, and community contributions. These students never fail to impress Rotarians with their positive impact on our community.

Pictured with Kutztown Club President-elect Ellen Overcast, are the student of the month from Kutztown Area High School, Grant Fitzgerald (top) and from Brandywine Heights High School Alexandria Lee (bottom). Congratulations to both of you! Please look for an upcoming article in the BerksMont News.

Mike Collins Circle of Excellence Award
Club member Mike Collins recently enjoyed his Circle of Excellence Award from his company, DiaSorin, Inc. Mike is a regional service manager of Northeast US and his region led the entire country in all service metrics for 2021. The prize for this award was an all-inclusive trip to the Four Seasons in Los Cabos, Mexico, on the Baja Peninsula, where he spent the early portion of April with his wife Kellie, a fellow Rotarian. Congratulations from the Club!
Working to shine at the District Conference
District Conference planning meeting set for Wednesday April 16 following the regular club meeting (meeting will be hybrid).
The Kutztown Club is helping to organize the hospitality suite, registration, and the house of inspiration. In addition, we will be setting up a Kutztown Rotary Club House of Inspiration table. Please come out and help with the planning of these events. There is still time to register for the conference!

The Tri-District Conference is coming up on April 22-24 at the Hershey Lodge, comprising Districts 7430, 7450, and 7475. With our own Bob Hobaugh as the 7430 District Governor, the Kutztown Club is putting in an effort to shine at the event. We are looking for members to help organize and man the hospitality suite and the house of inspiration table or volunteer to man the registration table or be an ambassador for the event. Along with many conference events of inspirational speakers, break out meetings, and a Saturday night dance party, there are lots of fun Hershey-themed activities in which to partake.

Member spotlight - Jim Springer
This week's member spotlight is Jim Springer. Below is a bio supplied by Jim:

I joined The Rotary Club of Kutztown in 2006. My aim back then was to help my community thrive and to get businesses to work as a whole. At the same time to help myself grow personally. Over a period of years, I have served as president twice, Chairperson of Membership, Chairperson of Farmers Night, Board of Directors, Taste of Kutztown Chairperson, I also directed the Flatworks Art Show. Over the last couple of years my focus is now supporting the club the best way I can. Focusing on new members and getting them involved with the Rotary Club of Kutztown.
