Kutztown Rotary Club Welcomes District Governor Len Gieseler
7430 District Governor Len Gieseler visited with the Kutztown Rotary Club on August 30 to share his plans for the district in the next Rotary year and to discuss the welfare of the Kutztown club. Dring the meeting, Len was called on to present Florita Hobaugh with a Paul Harris Society pin. In addition, past District Governor Bob Hobaugh presented Past President Tom Kulp the Rotary Citation award for accomplishing all of the goals set for the 2021-22 Rotary year.

Kutztown Club cheers as Tom accepts the Rotary Citation for the 2021-22 year
Kutztown Rotary members participated in the Potato Project on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the KU Heritage Center in Kutztown, PA to help out iHartHarvest, Inc, a unique ministry answering local hunger issues. This project, in which potatoes and other vegetables are planted and harvested by volunteers, has been helping to feed the hungry since 2009. Merakey is a not-for-profit developmental, behavioral health, and education provider offering a variety of services to individuals and communities across the country. Their programs support individuals with all kinds of needs, from people with addiction or intellectual and physical disabilities, to homeless veterans and children in need of homes.
Kathy joined us to specifically speak about the foster care services in our area. There are over 13.500 children placed in foster care services in PA every year and there is a critical need for families to provide a safe home for these children. On September 23, Kutztown club members Bob Hobaugh, Florita Hobaugh, Rose Galeano-Phillips, Joni McPike, Melissa Kirk, and Tom Kulp attended the Casino Night fundraiser sponsored by the Allentown West Club and held at the America on Wheels Museum. The venue was quite interesting, and the food and beverages were lovely. It was a fun night of gambling, silent auction, and raffle baskets, all to benefit a good cause. And, on September 25, Kurt Rohrbach and Tom Kulp attended the Sporting Clay Shoot Fundraiser sponsored by the Rotary Club of Belvedere, NJ at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays. In this well attended fundraiser, participants received ammunition to play a fun round of shooting targets, golf carts for transportation around the course, and a meal and prizes at the end of the day. With an impressive 96 out of 100 targets hit, Kurt won the top shooter award. Go Kurt!

The Rotary student exchange is back! After 2 long years, District 7430 is happy to welcome exchange students back to our clubs.
The Kutztown Club was happy to welcome Marie, our student from Brazil, with a picnic at the Hobaugh's. Also included was a past Kutztown club exchange student from Brazil. A big thank you to Bob and Florita for a lovely party.
Along with serving the community, members of the Kutztown Rotary Club like to be social. We do a social hour meeting every third Wednesday of the month, we have movie club meetings at area venues, and enjoy many other social activities.
Pictured here for the month of September are movie club meetings at Weathered Vineyards as well as 2 new venues - First Fridays at Boyertown - Colebrookdale Train event and Kutztown Oktoberfest. We also enjoyed a tasty Social Hour at Copperz in Hamburg with the Hamburg Rotary Club.

Member spotlight this month is Meghan Reeder Below is a short bio submitted by Meghan.
I was born in the Phoenixville-Collegeville area of Pennsylvania, yet I spent much of my childhood in East Greenville (Montgomery County) and Boyertown (Berks County) because growing up, I spent half of my time with my mom and half with my dad. Also, when I was 3, I was diagnosed with high-functioning autism, which limited my ability to socialize and communicate properly. As a result, I was not integrated into a regular classroom until 4th grade and had an aide help me through most of high school. Despite my autism and, thanks to my experience with my former stepfather, I got used to traveling both statewide and nationwide and have now also been to the UK and Italy. Also, I enjoy music and have learned to play many different kinds of instruments.
As I was graduating high school, my mom and I moved to Kutztown to start my college life. I graduated from Kutztown University with a bachelor’s degree in art history and a minor in anthropology. I have also attended taekwondo classes, which helped teach me perseverance and self-control, and have reached the rank of red belt.
I got my taste in volunteering in girl scouts, which I attended from kindergarten to grade 12. I earned my bronze award for creating trails in a park in the East Greenville area and my silver award for building a shelter for feral cats to live in (as part of the trap, neuter, release program) and making toys for cats waiting to be adopted, to make them more interactive with new owners. I have volunteered for the local rotary club since 2020 and have been an official member since 2021.
